Before taking on the new General Secretariat for Strategic Planning, Dr Aris Angelis was Assistant Professor of Health Economics in the Department of Health Services Research and Policy at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The responsibilities of his position among others included the development of a research program aiming at evaluating new oncology products at an early stage using pharmacoeconomic and decision analysis techniques, with the support of the English
Health Technology Assessment (HTA) organization, National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Before joining LSHTM, Dr Angelis was a Research Fellow and a Guest Teacher at the Department of Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he remains a Visiting Fellow. While at LSE, most recently he had participated in the EU funded project IMPACT-HTA, co-leading the research activities of a Work Package on Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis methods in the context of medicines evaluation, in collaboration with different HTA bodies. He was also leading the research activities of a project initiative with the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), towards the development of an ESMO value framework for cancer medicines.
Dr Angelis received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Policy and Economics from the LSE. He also holds an MSc in International Health Policy from the LSE, an MSc in Biopharmacy from King’s College London and a BSc in Biochemistry from Imperial College London
In the past, Dr Angelis has undertaken contracted research, training and advisory work for the European Commission, the World Health Organization, and national Ministries of Health, including the UK Department of Health and Social Care. He has published numerous research papers and studies in leading academic peer reviewed journals.
